Eric Hames :
Eric helped start the Chilliwack Mustangs junior football club in 1958. Hames found funding through the CFL's Lions. The partnership grew, and Hames became tight with the pro team's players and personnel. The Lions paid for coaching sessions and drove east for Chilliwack's spring camps.
As time passed, it became apparent the junior team wasn't working, so when it folded, Hames donated all the team's equipment, from balls to helmets and jockstraps, to Chilliwack secondary school. The result: CSS Frontiersman, which produced such products as Keith Currie, Jim Sache and Dave Haynes. All went on to become founders of the Valley Huskers junior football team.

Pioneers Of Chilliwack Football
Dave Haynes:
Dave played his high school football for the Chilliwack Frontiersman in the mid 1960's. Dave then moved on to the North Shore Cougars (now the South Surrey Rams) of the BCJFL. It wasnt until 1993 that Dave joined the Chilliwack Greyhawks as head coach of the bantam team. In 1996 Dave moved up to the Midget ranks and won 3 consecutive VCFL titles and coached in 2 BC Championship games. He then capped it all off with the one and only VCFL Midget win in Star Bowl history 14-13. Dave then moved on to become the first head coach of the Valley Huskers and led them to one Cullen Cup game and 3 straight playoff appearances in four years.
Wayne Bjorge:
Wayne was one of the Co-founders of Chilliwack minor football. His son Joe played for the Jr. Bantam Greyhawks. Wayne was the original O-Co-ordinator for the 1992 Greyhawks JB team. He has been heavily involved with the Chilliwack Giants Minor Football Club. Wayne has since become the new President of Chilliwack Minor Football.

Jim Sache:
President of Chilliwack's British Columbia Football Conference club, Sache still spends considerable time volunteering time for the team he helped create. He grew up on his family farm, and it wasn't until high school that he started in football. His lifelong passion began in the late '60s, when he joined the CSS football team. Playing with equipment donated from Chilliwack's first junior football club, Sache tore up the turf as a running back and defensive back. He spent some time away from the game, until his son Geoff found the sport as an enthusiastic 14-year-old. Now 28, Geoff has followed in his father’s footsteps and now coaches the successful Chilliwack Midget program-but not before a junior football career that partially led to the Huskers' inception. Several talented graduating Midget players left Chilliwack to play junior football elsewhere in the 1990s, Geoff Sache included. "We had good players leaving and wanted to give them a chance to stay and play in Chilliwack," father Sache said. Along with 11 other directors, he helped bring the Huskers to life.
