This is the Chilliwack Football Heritage Web Page. In these pages are a history of Teams, Players, and Pioneers of the sport of Football in Chilliwack B.C. Canada. Beginning with the Chilliwack Mustangs in 1958 and seeing massive growth and resurgence in the 1990's. The idea behind the site is to give an identity to the younger generations so they can appreciate the sacrifice of the volunteers that made football in Chilliwack possible. Chilliwack football has always had a great deal of community support. We have been here for 49 years and counting. I will also have links to each team and follow their progress. Just click on the team name to go to their website. Surrounded by tall mountain peaks, such as the dramatic Mount Cheam, Slesse Mountain, and the Fraser and Vedder Rivers, Chilliwack's natural setting is magnificent.
Growing up in Chilliwack through the late 1980’s and having little interest for the sports provided I began to watch the B.C lions on T.V. Like a lot of young men I instantly took too the sport after seeing players like Chilliwack born Rick Klassen take to the field and win a Grey Cup in 1985. The turning point for me was watching the Lions lose to the Blue Bombers in 1988. My father had noticed my passion for the game and with no local football in Chilliwack we called a local touch team called the A-Magic Mist Panthers. None other than one of the Chilliwack Minor football co-founders Don Wiens coached the Panthers. The next year a core of Chilliwack kids decided to play for the closest contact team to us being the Langley Minor Football Association. At this point a core group of parents had enough of the commute and decided it was time make a run at our own association. There was a massive void in Chilliwack when football was concerned, there were so many great players and coaches that came out of the Chilliwack Frontiersman Program as well as the Sardis Falcons it was just a matter of time, and with the right formula we have what you see today. Things went well in the first game in the history of Chilliwack Minor Football as the Junior Bantam Greyhawks dismantled the Langley Outlaws 48-0. The Greyhawks finished with a 4-4 record and made the playoffs. At this point we new we had something special. From that team there were 4 players that went on to play Junior Football and two went on to play University. All of the teams from flag to Midget have always prided themselves on being hard hitting, smash mouth and representing the City of Chilliwack with class. Chilliwack football has been known for its high level of play, and as a reward has won several Valley Championships as well as a hand full of Provincial Championships. Playing in Chilliwack is like no other place that I have seen when you combine community support with friends family and volunteers that really care it’s a very special thing. In celebrating our 15th season we would like to wish the Huskers all the best of luck in the upcoming season.
